Preventative Health Testing Has Changed in Alberta

As of July 31, 2026, Alberta introduced a new option allowing people to access certain preventative diagnostic imaging tests through participating private clinics without a physician referral.

Available tests may include:
• MRI
• CT scans
• Ultrasound
• X-rays

⚠️ Important: Self-referral does not mean every test is appropriate for everyone. A regulated healthcare professional must assess whether the requested test is suitable and safe.
